Reasons Why Tanzania Should Be On Your Hit List For 2012
Thursday, February 9th, 2012Tanzania is one of the continent’s most wonderful diverse regions and contains some of Africa’s most famous landmarks whilst remaining lightly touristy. Although some of the more famous landmarks within the country such as Mt Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti National Park, Ruaha and the Ngorongoro Crater do experience a high volume of visitors every year, it’s nothing in comparison to neighbouring Kenya which is considered mass market tourism. When it comes to the most popular holidays in Africa there is nothing that beats an African safari combined with a beach holiday. When it comes to these types of trips there is nowhere in the world that does it better than Tanzania. Tanzania is one of the only nations in Africa that has wildlife reserves within close proximity to the continents tropical beaches. By travelling with a light aircraft you can be in the Ngorongoro Crater in the morning viewing Lions and by afternoon you could be sitting on the beach in Zanzibar, soaking up the afternoon sun, sipping a cool, refreshing beer.
A Tanzania safari combined with a vast array of beach holiday options is a luxury many other African nations don’t have access to. Zambia, Namibia & Botswana are all nations that suffer this fate as visitors don’t have direct access to any of the continents tropical beaches, meaning it’s at least a day’s travel, sometimes two days to finally reach the Eastern seaboard.
Did you know that 25% of all international visitors are motivated to visit Tanzania to climb Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, and the tallest free standing mountain in the world.
The vast majority of tourists that visit Tanzania every year head to the countries Northern parks which include the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater & Lake Manyara. This region is so popular with tourists because it encompasses three things, outstanding volcanic landscape, prestigious game viewing and an opportunity to interact with the local Masai community. The Serengeti is also home to the annual wildebeest migration which takes place once a year over into Kenya’s Masai Mara. Just over 1.5 million wildebeest and 500,000 zebra take part in this magical event which spans over several months of the year, and although this is a very popular time to visit the Serengeti, and lodges do fill up rather quickly, it’s a sight you will remember forever.
